World Invocation Day Vigil
Thursday, May 31
You are invited to participate in two Vigils for World Invocation Day, sounding the Great Invocation every 15 minutes for the 24 hours of Thursday May 31st.
Vigil for the Americas - in co-operation with groups throughout the continent
Vigil for New Zealand - in co-operation with the Triangle Centre.
- Every year since 1952 people in all parts of the world have celebrated World Invocation Day on the day of the Gemini Full Moon. It is a global day of prayer and meditation when people of different spiritual paths join in a universal appeal to divinity, using the Great Invocation.
- Groups around the world organise a wide range of gatherings to observe the Day, inviting people of goodwill to use the Great Invocation in their prayers and meditations. These Vigils mark a further contribution to the global focus - with a particular emphasis on the continent of the Americas and on the small Pacific nation of New Zealand.
Sounding the Great Invocation every 15 minutes
The 24 hours of May 31st are divided into 15 minute periods. The aim is to have individuals or groups commit themselves to spend specific 15 minute periods in prayer or meditation for a world culture of co-operation, justice and peace. Each 15 minute period is to begin and end with a sounding of the Great Invocation. There is no limit to the number of 15 minute periods you can register for.
Why a Vigil?
World Invocation Day has been observed on the Gemini Full Moon since 1952. On World Invocation Day people all over the world will be making a special effort to use the Great Invocation. National and regional Vigils for World Invocation Day where groups of people use the Great Invocation in a rhythmic pulse every 15 minutes for 24 hours have taken place in New Zealand since 2000 and in Central / South America since 2003. In addition to the multitude of initiatives on this Day the Vigil is a way of encouraging a wider network of people to use the Great Invocation as a service to humanity. It is also a way for those who are experienced in the use of this world prayer to link consciously with co-workers in their region - sending love to each participant using the Great Invocation at the same time they are using it. We can visualize these Vigils contributing to the building of a subjective sense of community amongst co-workers in the region of the Americas as well as in New Zealand.

How to register and see the list of participants:
- Use the Sign Up Form to register. First select the Americas or New Zealand Vigil (click on the arrow and select a Vigil). Next select the times (in your own time zone) you will sound the Great Invocation. Click and drag: Just click on the times you choose and drag them over to the right column. You may like to take on a number of different periods (for example: 09:00 am to 10:00am; 12:00 pm noon - 12.15 pm; 5.00 pm - 6.45 pm). Remember, the aim is to use the Great Invocation on the quarter hour, so, for example, if you wish to take part in the Vigil from 09:00 am to 09:45 am, you should use the prayer four times: 09:00; 09:15; 09:30; 09.45.
- You can check to find a list of participants from the Americas or from New Zealand using the Great Invocation at each precise quarter hour time. Again, be sure to first select the Americas or New Zealand Vigil. The list will appear in the time zone your computer is using. So if you are registered to use the Great Invocation in Argentina at 2:00 AM, your name will appear on the list of a computer in New York (USA Eastern Time) at the equivalent time of 1:00 AM.
