During International Days and major international conferences there is a special opportunity to serve in
the creation of a more unified and compassionate world.
As meditators we can symbolically stand together with all actively working in the spirit of the Charter of Compassion, and invoke the aid of the Forces of Light in support of these events.
These International Days and events reflect important themes in the mobilization of energies to:
- Build right relations in the world by addressing serious problems of poverty, inequality and climate change through practical actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030
- engaging people of goodwill all over the world in a common movement.

Silence at the United Nations
The Spiritual Caucus at the United Nations gathers in the vicinity of UN Headquarters in New York (September - June) on the third Thursday every month for 30 minutes of silence followed by 30 minutes of dialogue, sharing insights and exploring ways to use an inner focus in service of the work of the UN.

99 Days of Peace through Unity
The organised convergence of groups dedicated to building Peace Through Unity which began with World Unity Week is maintaining its focus for the 99 day period from the start of Unity Week through to the end of Peace Week which is centered around the UN International Day of Peace.
99 Days of Peace through Unity is a clarion call out to all individuals, groups, networks, platforms, initiatives and institutions dedicated to unity, peace and whole-system health to join forces to explore what we can achieve together when we focus our collective energy on a shared vision and purpose.
International Day of Co-operatives
Theme 2022: Cooperatives Build a Better World
This year marks the 100th celebration of Co-Op Day. The cooperative movement encompassing financial organisations, farmers, producers and consumers is playing an incredible role in pioneering new ethics and values in business and economics. This Day, which is observed on the first Saturday of July, marks the formation in 1895 of the International Cooperative Alliance. Today the Alliance includes 318 member organizations (many of which include thousands of cooperatives) from 112 countries, representing one billion individuals worldwide.

UN High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development
Theme 2022: Building back better from the CoronaVirus Disease (COVID-19) While advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This Forum has been established as the main UN body to review progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs. Its task is to provide political leadership, guidance and recommendations on the 2030 Agenda's implementation and follow-up; keep track of progress; spur coherent policies informed by evidence, science and country experiences; as well as address new and emerging issues.
The HLPF will also review in-depth Sustainable Development Goals 4 on quality education, 5 on gender equality, 14 on life below water, 15 on life on land, and 17 on partnerships for the Goals. It will take into account the different impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic across all Sustainable Development Goals and the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the Goals.
The Sustainable Development Goals can only become a focus for the living will in humanity if and as people of goodwill in every sector of society are inspired to contribute towards their achievement. Governments will only act to the extent that people of goodwill want them to act. The Forum includes representatives of civil society as well as governments.
World Goodwill's Cycle of Conferences Visualisation initiative is placing a focus on the Forum, relating the Forum's role in reviewing progress towards achievement of the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda to the individual spiritual practice of a daily review.
World Population Day
Theme 2022: A world of 8 billion: Towards a resilient future for all - Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all
World Population Day aims to raise awareness about the sexual and reproductive health needs and vulnerabilities of women and girls during the pandemic, to highlight how we can safeguard hardfought gains and ensure that sexual and reproductive health and rights stays on the local agenda.
World Youth Skills Day
Theme 2022: Transforming Youth Skills for the Future
In 2013 the UN estimates that 74.5 million youth around the world were unemployed. One in five young people (125 million)who are working live in extreme poverty (less than US$1 per day).
First observed in 2015, World Youth Skills Day focuses attention on the importance of young people learning skills as a way of reducing unemployment and under-employment. Young people are particularly exposed to the socio-economic consequences of the pandemic.
Full Moon - Cancer
Since ancient times human beings have honored the full moon as a time when the sacred is most accesible. It is a time of light - the moon reflects the light of the sun onto the face of the earth. In astrology this is a time when the qualities and potentials of the zodiacal sign of the sun are especially available to humanity for use in service.
During the full moon religious and esoteric groups around the world use the opportunities of this time to vizualize light and love and spiritual power flowing into humanity and strengthening all that is being done to help prepare the way for a world of unity, justice and peace; a world in which the Millenium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals will be achieved.
Nelson Mandela International Day
The United Nations has observed this Day every year on Nelson Mandela's birthday since 2010.
The overarching objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good. Ultimately it seeks to empower communities everywhere. "Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day."
The United Nations first observed World Chess Day in 2020. Before then it was widely observed by chess players on the July 20, the day when the International Chess Federation was formed in 1924.
Throughout history, games and sports have helped humanity to survive times of crisis by reducing anxieties and improving mental health. While the coronavirus outbreak has forced most gaming and sports activities to scale down, chess has demonstrated remarkable resilience, adaptability and a very strong convening power in time of pandemic.Over the past few months, the overall interest in chess is reported to have doubled, with more players than ever coming together to participate in chess events that are being increasingly held through online platforms.
International Moon Day
Declared an International Day by the UN General Assembly in 2021, Moon Day is part of the UN Agenda on International Cooperation in the Peaceful uses of Outer Space. The day marks the anniversary of the first landing by humans on the Moon.
Celebrations will also consider the achievements of all States in the exploration of the Moon and raise public awareness of sustainable Moon exploration and utilization.

Theme 2022: Weaving Together Intercultural Peacelearning
IIPE Mexico will convene 60 educators from around the world for a week-long, residential, learning community experience in peace education. A rich exchange of peacebuilding research, academic theory, best practices, and actions will be shared.
World Drowning Prevention Day
Theme 2022: Anyone can drown, no one should
This global advocacy event serves as an opportunity to highlight the tragic and profound impact of drowning on families and communities and offer life-saving solutions to prevent it. An estimated 235,600 people drown every year, and drowning is among the ten leading causes of death for children aged 5-14 years. More than 90% of drowning deaths occur in rivers, lakes, wells, domestic water storage vessels and swimming pools in low- and middle-income countries, with children and adolescents in rural areas disproportionately affected. ... 90 percent of drowning deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, with Asia carrying the highest burden
World Hepatitis Day

Hepatitis remains largely unknown as a health threat in many regions of the world - yet it is one of the leading causes of death globally - more than HIV/AIDS and malaria.
Chronic hepatitis B and C are life-threatening infectious diseases that cause serious liver damage, cancer, and premature death. More than 300 million people are living with the hepatitis B virus or the hepatitis C virus.
World Day Against Trafficking in Persons
Theme 2022: Use and abuse of technology
Human trafficking is a crime that exploits women, children and men for numerous purposes including forced labour and sex.
Every year, thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers, in their own countries and abroad. Almost every country in the world is affected by trafficking, whether as a country of origin, transit or destination for victims.
International Day of Friendship
United Nations International Day of Friendship highlights friendship as the fundamental glue uniting people across diverse cultures and backgrounds; an essential requirement in building the Culture of Peace and fundamental to the work of the United Nations.
The idea of friendship permeates the work and ideals of the United Nations. The Charter proclaims that one of the purposes of the Organization is "to develop friendly relations among nations". These same words appear in the preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. UNESCO’s Constitution speaks of the need for peace based not just on the "political and economic arrangements of governments", but on the "intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind". And the UN Alliance of Civilizations initiative aims to improve cooperation and understanding among nations and peoples across cultures and religions, including to counter the forces that fuel extremism.
