United Nations Days & Years Meditation Initiative
2008 International Year of the Potato
Meditation Outline
Individuals and groups can help to make the International Year of Potato more effective through meditation and prayer. Here you will find a sample meditation outline, but you may prefer to create your own meditation outline. Click here for information on the Year and suggestions on how to participate in this Initiative.
Sit comfortably, alert and with the spine erect. Breathe quietly and regularly. Raise your consciousness to the centre between the eyebrows and without strain hold this focus.
- Say aloud:
May the Power of the one Life pour through the group of all true servers
May the Love of the one Soul characterise the lives of all who seek to aid the Great Ones
May I/we fulfil my/our part in the one Work through self-forgetfulness, harmlessness, and right speech.Use the creative imagination to link in thought with those around the world who are sharing in this International Year Meditation.
-
Let the circle of your thoughts expand to include all true servers. Visualise this worldwide group as a network of light and love enveloping the earth, bringing to birth a civilisation and culture of peace, goodwill and right relations. Think particularly of those working to build right relations between the human and vegetable kingdoms.
-
Imagine Great Ones on the inner side of life flooding this global group of servers with spiritual energies, aiding them in their work.
-
Meditate on this most humble tuber, the potato, and its vital contribution to human sustenance and health. In your meditation you might:
Visualise the potato plant and those who cultivate it;
Think with gratitude of the life force and essence of this plant and the gifts it brings to humanity;
Reflect on the fact that the potato is the fourth largest food crop (by quantity - after maize, wheat and rice) in the world - that production and consumption is growing dramatically in the developing world and the potato will play an increasingly important role in feeding the world, while preserving the vitality of the soil and environment.
Send love and support to those who cultivate potatoes.
-
Pause for a moment of alert stillness.
-
Reflect on the United Nations Millennium Development Goal to reduce by half the number of people who are undernourished and hungry by the year 2015. The potato produces more nutritious food, more quickly, on less land, and in harsher climates than any other major crop. Imagine a wealth of initiatives to increase the sustainable production of potatoes.
See this work flooded with spiritual energies: joy, light, love, inspiration and blessing.
Close by using the Great Invocation or an affirmation of your choice.
From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into human minds.
Let Light descend on Earth.From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into human hearts.
May the Coming One return to Earth.From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide all little human wills
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.From the centre which we call the human race
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out.
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth
