United Nations Days & Years Meditation Initiative

2008 International Year of the Potato

Meditation Outline

Individuals and groups can help to make the International Year of Potato more effective through meditation and prayer. Here you will find a sample meditation outline, but you may prefer to create your own meditation outline. Click here for information on the Year and suggestions on how to participate in this Initiative.

Sit comfortably, alert and with the spine erect. Breathe quietly and regularly. Raise your consciousness to the centre between the eyebrows and without strain hold this focus.

Visualise the potato plant and those who cultivate it;

Think with gratitude of the life force and essence of this plant and the gifts it brings to humanity;

Reflect on the fact that the potato is the fourth largest food crop (by quantity - after maize, wheat and rice) in the world - that production and consumption is growing dramatically in the developing world and the potato will play an increasingly important role in feeding the world, while preserving the vitality of the soil and environment.

Send love and support to those who cultivate potatoes.
